Discipline

“Mistakes themselves are often the best teachers of all.”

--James Anthony Froude

“The secret of education lies in respecting the student.”

--Ralph Waldo Emerson

In order to empower students to evaluate both present and future choices in life and to make decisions thoughtfully, Lady Liberty’s discipline policy is based on the principles of clear communication, consistent consequences, and opportunities for students to learn from poor choices as well as celebrate sound ones.

Lady Liberty sees discipline as an ever-present opportunity to teach and model effective means of communication, conflict-resolution, and decision-making. Above all, discipline offers students an opportunity to live the Core Values of Caring, Respect, Responsibility, and Justice. As such, teachers at Lady Liberty are expected not only to serve as Core Value role models who live the values in their own interactions with both staff and students, but as Core Value mentors who help guide and empower all students to understand the results of their choices and to see how those choices impact both the individual and the entire school community.
